What is a 2x2 photo?
A 2×2 photo is a square photo measuring 2 inches by 2 inches (51×51 mm). It's required for US passports, US visas (including the DS-160 online form, which asks for 600×600 px or larger), Indian visas and OCI, US green cards and many other documents.
The US rules say the head, from chin to top of hair, must be 1 to 1⅜ inches (25–35 mm), i.e. 50–69% of the photo height, with eyes roughly in the upper middle of the frame. The oval guide in the editor shows this area.
Print 6 photos for the price of one
The 4×6 inch print sheet fits six 2×2 photos with cut lines. Order a standard 4×6 print at a pharmacy, supermarket kiosk or online photo service, which typically costs well under a dollar, then cut along the lines.
Need a white background?
US passport photos need a plain white or off-white background. If yours isn't, run the photo through our free White Background Photo tool first, then crop it here.
