How to use the Image Compressor

  1. Drop one or more images into the box, or click to choose files.
  2. Choose "Quality" to set compression by hand, or "Target size" to hit an exact size in KB.
  3. Pick an output format: keep the original, or switch to JPEG or WebP for smaller files.
  4. Download each image, or grab everything at once as a ZIP.

Why compress images?

Large images are the most common reason web pages load slowly. A 5 MB phone photo can usually be cut to 300โ€“500 KB without any visible difference, which makes your site faster, helps your Google ranking and saves bandwidth for visitors on mobile data.

Compression also helps outside the web. Many job portals, government forms, school systems and email providers limit attachment sizes to 100 KB, 1 MB or 2 MB. This tool gets your image under that limit quickly.

Lossy vs. lossless compression

JPEG and WebP use lossy compression: they throw away detail your eye is unlikely to notice. A quality setting of 70โ€“80% is the sweet spot for most photos. PNG is lossless, so re-saving a PNG rarely makes it much smaller. For PNG photos, convert to WebP or JPEG for the biggest savings.

Private by design

Most online compressors upload your files to a server. This compressor does all the work inside your browser using the HTML5 Canvas API, so your images are never sent anywhere. You can even disconnect from the internet after the page loads and it still works.

Frequently asked questions

Is this image compressor free?

Yes. There are no limits, no watermarks and no sign-up. You can compress as many images as you like.

Will compression reduce image quality?

At 70โ€“85% quality the difference is almost impossible to see on a normal screen, while the file is often 60โ€“80% smaller. You can compare the before and after sizes before downloading.

How do I compress an image to a specific size like 100 KB?

Switch the mode to "Target size", type the size in KB and the tool automatically finds the highest quality that fits under your limit.

Why did my PNG barely get smaller?

PNG is a lossless format, so there is little to remove without changing the format. Choose WebP or JPEG as the output to shrink it dramatically. Pick WebP if you need to keep transparency.

Are my images uploaded to a server?

No. Everything happens locally in your browser. Your files never leave your computer or phone.
