How to use the Resize for Instagram
- Upload your photo. It's set to an Instagram square post (1080×1080) automatically.
- Switch the preset to portrait (1080×1350) or story (1080×1920) if you prefer.
- Choose "Fit inside" to keep the whole photo with a coloured border, or "Crop to fill" to fill the frame.
- Download and post.
Instagram image sizes
Square post: 1080×1080 px (1:1). Portrait post: 1080×1350 px (4:5), which takes up the most space in the feed and usually gets more attention. Story and Reels: 1080×1920 px (9:16). Landscape post: 1080×566 px (1.91:1).
If you upload a photo with a different shape, Instagram crops it for you, often cutting off heads or text. Resizing it yourself first means you decide exactly what's visible.
Post the whole photo without cropping
Want a wide landscape photo or a tall screenshot to appear in full? Choose Fit inside and pick a background colour. White and black are classic, or use a colour from your brand. The entire image is placed on a square or portrait canvas, so nothing is cut off.
Frequently asked questions
What is the best size for an Instagram post?
1080×1350 (portrait, 4:5) shows largest in the feed. 1080×1080 (square) is the classic choice and also looks good on your profile grid.
Why does Instagram make my photos blurry?
Instagram re-compresses anything larger than 1080 px wide. Uploading at exactly 1080 px wide gives you the most control over sharpness.
Can I use this for Facebook or TikTok?
Yes. The preset list also includes TikTok/Story (1080×1920), Facebook link images and covers, and more.
