How to use the Compress to 100KB
- Drop your photo or scanned document into the box.
- The target is preset to 100 KB. Change it if your form needs a different size.
- Download the compressed image, which is guaranteed to be at or under the target whenever possible.
Where is a 100 KB limit common?
Online applications for jobs, universities, scholarships, visas, exams and government services often require photos and signatures to be under 100 KB. Phone photos are typically 2โ5 MB, 20 to 50 times too large. This tool shrinks them in one step.
How it works
The compressor tries different JPEG quality levels and picks the highest one that still fits under your target. If the image is very large, it is also scaled down a little, because even the lowest quality setting can't fit a 12-megapixel photo into 100 KB with good results.
Frequently asked questions
Will my photo still look good at 100 KB?
Yes, for typical uses like profile photos and ID pictures. 100 KB is plenty for a clear image around 1000โ1500 pixels wide.
The form also requires specific dimensions. What should I do?
Resize first with the Image Resizer (or Passport Photo Maker), then compress the result here.
Can I compress to 200 KB or 20 KB instead?
Yes. Just type any target size in the KB box.
