How to use the Background Remover
- Drop a photo into the box, or paste it with Ctrl/Cmd + V.
- Pick "Any subject" for products, pets and objects, or "People & portraits" for photos of people.
- Compare the result with the original, then choose a transparent, white or coloured background.
- Download your image: a transparent PNG, or a JPG when you choose a background colour.
AI background removal without uploading your photos
Most background removers upload your photo to a server, and many charge credits for full-resolution downloads. This tool runs a compact AI segmentation model directly in your browser using WebAssembly. Your image is processed on your own device and never sent anywhere, and you always get the full-resolution result for free.
Choose Any subject for products, animals, cars and other objects. Choose People & portraits for selfies, profile pictures and group photos: that model is trained specifically on people and gives cleaner edges around hair. Both models are only a few megabytes, so they load quickly even on mobile data.
What can you use it for?
Online sellers use white-background product photos for Amazon, Shopee, Lazada, eBay and Etsy listings. Job seekers and students clean up profile and ID photos. Designers and marketers cut out subjects for thumbnails, banners, presentations and social media posts. Combine it with the Passport Photo Maker to put yourself on a plain white background before cropping to the official size.
Tips for the cleanest cut-out
Use a photo where the subject is in focus and clearly separated from the background. Good lighting and contrast between subject and background give the sharpest edges. Very busy backgrounds, or a subject the same colour as its surroundings, can leave small artefacts. If that happens, try the other model, or crop closer to your subject first.
Frequently asked questions
Is the background remover really free?
Yes. There are no credits, no sign-up and no watermark, and you get the full-resolution image.
Are my photos uploaded to a server?
No. The AI model is downloaded to your browser and runs on your device. Your photos never leave your computer or phone.
Why does the first use take a moment longer?
The first time, your browser downloads the small AI model (about 5 MB). It's cached afterwards, so later uses start right away, and it even works offline.
How do I get a white background instead of transparent?
After the background is removed, choose "White" (or any colour) under Background and download. You'll get a JPG with that background.
Does it work on phones?
Yes. Both models are small and run on modern iPhones and Android phones in any up-to-date browser.
