How to use the Compress to 20KB

  1. Crop your image to just the signature or face first (fewer pixels means better quality at 20 KB).
  2. Drop the image into the box. The target is already set to 20 KB.
  3. Check the result size and preview, then download and upload it to your form.

Why 20 KB is tricky

A phone photo is usually 2โ€“5 MB, which is 100 to 250 times bigger than 20 KB. Simply lowering JPEG quality isn't enough at that size; the image also has to get smaller in pixels. This tool does both automatically: it searches for the highest quality that fits, and only reduces the dimensions when it has to.

Best results for signatures

Sign with a dark pen on plain white paper and take the photo in good daylight without shadows. Crop tightly around the signature before compressing. A clean white background compresses extremely well, so a cropped signature easily fits in 10โ€“20 KB and still looks crisp.

Many forms also specify dimensions, for example 140ร—60 pixels for a signature or 200ร—230 pixels for a photo. If yours does, resize first with the Image Resizer, then compress here.

Frequently asked questions

Can a photo really look good at 20 KB?

Yes, at the small sizes forms ask for. A 200ร—230 pixel passport-style photo or a 300ร—100 signature looks clear at 20 KB.

My form says "between 10 KB and 20 KB". What should I do?

Keep the target at 20 KB. The tool aims for the best quality under the limit, so results usually land between 15 and 20 KB.

Is it safe for ID documents?

Yes. The image is processed only in your browser and is never uploaded to any server.
