How to use the Image Resizer
- Upload an image by dropping it in the box or clicking to browse.
- Type a new width or height. Keep "Lock aspect ratio" on to avoid stretching.
- Or choose a preset such as Instagram Post or YouTube Thumbnail, then pick how the image should fit.
- Select the output format and click Download.
Resize for any purpose
Every platform wants a different size: Instagram posts are 1080ร1080, YouTube thumbnails 1280ร720, Facebook covers 820ร312. Uploading the wrong size leads to awkward cropping or blurry results. With the presets you get the right size in one click.
Resizing also makes files much smaller. Halving an image's width and height cuts its pixel count by 75%, which is often more effective than compression alone.
Fit, crop or stretch?
Crop to fill covers the whole canvas and trims the edges, which is best for thumbnails. Fit inside keeps the whole image visible and fills the empty space with a colour of your choice. Stretch forces the exact size and may distort the picture.
Frequently asked questions
Does resizing reduce quality?
Making an image smaller keeps it sharp. Making it much larger than the original can look soft, because the tool can't invent detail that isn't there.
What does "Lock aspect ratio" do?
It keeps the width-to-height proportions the same, so when you change one value the other updates automatically and the picture never looks stretched.
Can I resize a photo for a passport or ID?
Yes, but our dedicated Passport Photo Maker is easier: it knows the official sizes for many countries and creates a printable sheet.
Is there a file size limit?
There is no hard limit. Very large images (over about 50 megapixels) may be slow on older phones because all processing happens on your device.
